“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
— Bruce Lee
Katie Miller
This month we are proud to honor Katie Miller, Pentagon MMA member since 2015, in our April Student Spotlight! Having had no Martial Arts experience before joining, Katie has quickly become one of our fiercest warriors! She just placed 3rd at the DC IBJJF Open! When she is not working or training, Katie is either reading and drinking a glass of wine or out catching dinner with friends. Take some time to get to know Katie and watch out because she will try to pass your guard!
Us: “What made you choose to join the Pentagon MMA family?”
Katie: “It’s pristine. I live in the neighborhood. I love that there is a genuinely international presence.”
Us: “Has your Mixed Martial Arts training helped you in your career?”
Katie: “Jiu Jitsu specifically has helped me in street scuffles. The experience of knowing what it feels like to be hit, how quickly the body tires in a panic, and the moves that my body resorts to when I’m caught off guard are invaluable to me and could be of value to others as well.”
Us: “What makes Pentagon Mixed Martial Arts special to you?”
Katie: “I love my routine of a hard training session in the evening, going home and eating dinner, and sleeping like a baby. It’s almost a ritual at this point.”
Us: “What is a hidden talent you have that might surprise us?”
Katie: “I drink black coffee all day, even in the evening.”
Us: “What have you taken away from your Martial Arts journey thus far and what advice would you give to new members?”
Katie: “You can learn something from everybody, even someone who just started. The way you approach training and your attitude is just as important as the physical part of training. For new members, embrace humility. You’re going to get humbled. It’s part of the process.”
